A Fuel Surcharge is an automatic increase applied solely to transport-related tariff items; it refers to the official weekly average price for diesel used for motor transport given by the Ministry for Economic Development.
The surcharge, which may go up or down on a weekly basis, will be applied as a fixed percentage agreed in the tariff for each percentage point increase of the weekly average diesel price with respect to a "reference base price".
The "reference base price" is given in the tariff contract.
To provide maximum transparency and to make it easy to check that the Fuel Surcharge has been calculated and applied correctly, we publish a table showing the average diesel prices for the current and previous weeks, and a table showing diesel price increases/reductions.
The table next "increases/reductions" each bracket is 1% higher than the previous one.
This makes it quick and easy to calculate the Fuel Surcharge by counting the number of brackets separating the weekly average diesel price from the "reference base price" and multiplying this number by the percentage given in the tariff.
